I used to ride a Yamaha RD200 so I know what you are talking about. The Savage does ok going into a head wind, but watch out for that cross current. The bikes low weight is a plus when it comes to handling and feeling comfortable, but it can also be a disavantage in high winds. I was cruising on a stretch of highway when I was hit from the side with a big gust of wind...it was a little scary for about a minute. I like to think that this was nature's way of telling me to be more alert.
I will say this about the Savage..the more I ride it the more I like it. I was considering trading it in but decided to keep it for a while longer. Good luck in your search!
